Palm Treo Grows Into Needs Of Consumers
There have been many advances in the utility of the Palm Treo since it was first introduced in 2001, with the innovations matching the demands of users to be able to do more on their portable device. From the original device that performed as a Personal Data Assistant to the new models that work closely with the Blackberry handheld units, the Palm Treo is enjoying continued acceptance.
Instead of a cumbersome keyboard, the first models of the Palm Treo introduced in 2002 used its graffiti input to allow users to write on its pad with the letters and numbers being translated into characters on its screen. While somewhat difficult to learn, users could quickly enter notes and numbers without the need to work their thumbs on a miniature QWERTY keyboard.
Although a keyboard was available by using the unit’s stylus, many users determined the graffiti input method was easier and worked to master the sometimes contrary device. Once they understood what the Palm Treo wanted it became simple to enter the correct characters. Additionally, 2002 saw the first GSM, Global System for Mobile communications, incorporated into the Palm Treo and the introduction of a Sprint branded handheld.
Additional Options Rapidly Came On Board
With its new color screen lighting the way, a digital camera was added to the mix along with branded versions for Sprint and Verizon allowing it to attract more business and personal users. Additional PDA functions continued to make the Palm Treo one of the most often used devices by many businesses whose people spent a lot of time traveling.
With the Palm operating system compatible with both Windows systems as well as Macintosh operating systems, it crossed the gender border, attracting members of both operating system families. In 2004, the Palm Treo 659 included Bluetooth wireless communications to help make communications much easier for its users. It also allowed for users to make phone calls directly from its phone book. The screen resolution was also improved to 320 by 320 pixels.
Adding the Code Division Multiple Access, technology allowed for the addition of digital cell phone usage and Model 755b, was able to lose the nub of an antenna that seemed to get in the way for a lot of users. The integrated applications of the Palm Treo allow the user to check their calendar and send and read emails while talking on the phone. Some newer models also operate with Windows Mobile operating system, allowing communication with many different systems.
